THE LIVING CHRONICLE / ENTRY 0001

We inherit the past. We write what happens next.

LIVING CHRONICLE // RECORD OPEN

No one agrees on the exact moment the old world ended. It did not fall in a single night. Systems weakened, supply routes broke and distant governments became voices without reach. What remained was land, memory and people willing to begin again.

A dark city and silent freight route during the collapse
BEFORE / GRID FAILURE

The roads remained open. Their purpose disappeared first.

A renewed settlement with a workshop, greenhouse and radio mast
NOW / FIRST SIGNAL

A workshop, a field and a signal: the smallest foundations of a state.

01 / NOW

The Present

A settlement becomes a republic. Forests are measured, workshops awaken and the first plots are entered into a new land register. Nothing appears by magic: trees must grow, tools must be crafted and every structure carries the story of those who built it.

00 / BEFORE

The Past

The record of the past is incomplete. Its missing pages will be restored as the world grows—through recovered reports, ruins, testimony and the consequences of forgotten decisions.

∞ / NEXT

The Future

From the founding of the state onward, history will no longer be written only by its creators. Elections, businesses, laws, alliances, shortages and conflicts will become the recorded history of its players.

You are not joining a finished story. You are becoming one of its authors.
RECOVERED FRAGMENT / 000248.73 MHz

The week the lights stopped returning

The first outages were ordinary. A district went dark, then another, and each time the current returned a little later. Warehouses still showed full inventories on screens, but trucks arrived empty. People waited for an announcement that would explain everything. None ever came. The collapse was not one explosion—it was a chain of small failures, and the moment people stopped believing someone else would repair them.

Origin unverified. Preserved from an emergency radio transcript.

LIVING CHRONICLE / RECORD 0003

The day the sky divided

Later generations called it the Third World War. To the people who lived through it, the conflict had no single name for a long time. It began as a series of crises that still seemed explainable: severed data cables, forged broadcasts, detained ships, attacks on power exchanges and governments answering every warning with another mobilization. Each side insisted it was only responding. Every response shortened the time left for the next decision.

ARCHIVE / NIGHT ZERO

The sirens began before the public networks went silent. Most people saw the horizon before they understood the message.

01T−365 TO T−30 / A YEAR WITHOUT TRUST

The war began before the shooting

Trade restrictions became blockades, cyberattacks were answered with covert sabotage and every outage was blamed on an enemy before technicians reached the site. Navigation signals drifted. Bank settlements were delayed. Insurance disappeared from the busiest sea routes, so food, medicine and industrial parts stopped moving long before warehouses were physically empty. Citizens still went to work, but states were already preserving fuel, metals and information for themselves.

02T−29 TO T−1 / MOBILIZATION WITHOUT A DECLARATION

Every defence looked like an attack

Reservists were called up as an exercise. Aircraft dispersed to civilian airfields. Satellites were blinded for minutes at a time and commanders began making decisions from incomplete pictures. A conventional strike on a logistics hub killed advisers from several alliances. Automated warning systems raised readiness faster than diplomats could lower it. The final negotiations continued, but power had already moved from conference rooms to people with only minutes to judge intent.

03T+0 TO T+72 HOURS / THREE DAYS OF FIRE

The limited strike did not stay limited

The first salvos targeted radar, air bases, rail junctions, ports and command networks. Then came a handful of nuclear detonations described by every surviving government as controlled and necessary. Thermal flashes ignited districts beyond their targets; electromagnetic pulses disabled substations and communications hundreds of kilometres away; shifting rain carried fallout across borders that no longer mattered. Most people were not killed in the first hour. They were left inside a continent whose water pumps, hospitals, traffic control and supply chains had stopped together.

04T+4 DAYS TO YEAR 2 / THE QUIET COLLAPSE

Civilization failed one dependency at a time

Emergency generators consumed their last fuel. Treatment plants lost pressure, refrigerated medicines warmed and fires burned without coordinated crews. Cities emptied toward villages that could not feed the arriving numbers. The first winter took people through cold, infection and contaminated water more often than violence. Yet the destruction was uneven. Valleys outside direct strike zones kept wells, tools, stored seed and fragments of local knowledge. Short-wave radio joined communities that national networks could no longer reach.

Survivors repair a settlement and plant the first spring crop
RECOVERY / FIRST SPRING

Those who survived did not rebuild the old world. They began with water, seed, shelter and a signal.

THIS IS WHERE THE GAME BEGINS

Survival is only the first decision.

You enter the first season of a settlement that is trying to become a state. You are not a chosen hero and nothing appears from an invisible inventory. A tree must grow before it can be felled. An axe must be crafted before it can be used. Land must be measured, recorded and defended by rules people are willing to respect. Every workshop, election, contract and shortage becomes part of the chronicle after this page.

  • Resources have time, origin and an owner.
  • Land becomes property only through the new register.
  • The economy is built by players, not generated around them.
  • The future of the Republic has no prewritten ending.
